About Dr. Kaplan

Jesse Kaplan, MD/MBA is a specialist in the Orthopaedic care of the hand, elbow, and shoulder. Dr. Kaplan is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.

Dr. Kaplan is a California native from Santa Monica, CA. He attended the University of Southern California with a focus in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Studies, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. For medical school, he attended the University of California, Irvine where he obtained a dual MD/MBA degree in medicine and business. He graduated in the top of his business and medical school classes, achieving both Dean’s Scholar and Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Los Angeles County/ University of Southern California Medical Center. He obtained further sub-specialty fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. He returned to the University of California, Irvine as faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Kaplan is fellowship trained in the latest advances in Hand and Upper Extremity care with specific interests and clinic expertise in arthroscopic reconstructive techniques of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, wide awake surgery, shoulder and elbow arthroplasty and ultrasound guided procedures. He has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and presented at national Orthopaedic and Hand Surgery conferences. He teaches and mentors medical students, residents, and hand surgery fellows at UC Irvine.

As a California native, Dr. Kaplan is pleased to serve the Orange County community. He is an avid surfer and can frequently be seen in the water in Newport Beach. He enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and labradoodle (Bruce).
